How soon after I order a shed can I expect it to be built? +

Our lead times vary depending on the time of year and the size/style/options your order contains. Contact us to directly to learn about specific lead times for your desired building.

Will I need to get a building permit? +

The customer should consult their local building department to determine what is required. There are also city/neighborhood regulations that must be adhered to whether a permit is required or not. These regulations can include building size and height, property line, easement, and principal structure setbacks. These regulations must be considered when choosing a suitable location for your new shed.

Many cities require ZONING permits (little or no fee) for sheds under 200 square feet. The purpose of a ZONING permit is to make sure that your new building meets the zoning guidelines. This can include appearance, property line/easement setbacks, and height restrictions. In MN, most sheds over 200 square feet require a BUILDING permit. In WI, permitting requirements vary depending on location. The customer is responsible for obtaining and paying for any required ZONING permit. If you need any building details for your ZONING permit application, we provide those free of charge. If your project requires a BUILDING permit we will require you to provide a site plan and we will obtain the permit for you. The customer is still responsible for the BUILDING permit fee.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, please reach out to us and we will walk you through the entire process.

How do I know if the area I've chosen is suitable for the placement of my new storage shed? +

Your new building can be built right on the existing grade of a level backyard. The pressure treated skids that rest under the building are engineered for direct ground contact. If your yard is not level, you should consider providing a level site for your building for best overall appearance. This is the most important part. It is highly recommended that the ground does not slope more than 2-3". However, any place where the grade slopes no more than 6" is suitable. The more the ground slopes, the more additional leveling materials are required, which raises the floor of the shed off the ground. We come prepared to level the skids under the building up to 6" with treated lumber and wedges. Sites that slope more than 6” may incur additional leveling costs. If your site is not completely level our only option is to use these wedges and shims to level the building, which can take away from the overall appearance of your shed.

If your site is extremely soft, slopes more than 6", or you'd like to minimize the use of treated leveling materials additional site preparation will be required before we arrive to build your shed. In these cases we recommend a level rock base using 3/4” or smaller crushed rock or gravel with an approximate depth of 3-6”. Proper site prep ensures less problems down the road.

Provide at least 2' of clearance from any trees, fences, overhanging limbs, and other immovable objects. Please clean up after your pets before we arrive on your build date.

Do you offer site preparation services?

We do not offer any site preparation services. We can provide our expertise as well as referrals depending on your location.

We do not offer shed moving services. We custom build sheds right in our customer's backyards and do not have the equipment to move sheds.

Can my building go on a cement slab?

Yes. We can construct your building on a customer provided cement slab without the standard Shed Shop Treated Flooring system. It is pertinent that the cement slab foundation is installed following the exact specifications. Upon approved estimate we provide cement slab specifications to give to your concrete contractor. We may be able to provide a referral depending on your location. If you already have a cement slab in place, please call us to discuss your options.

What kind of paint or stain can I put on my new shed? +

All Shed Shop buildings are primed and ready for 100% Acrylic Latex exterior paint. We caulk your building in and around the door areas, corner trim, and horizontal seams. The LP SmartSide Panel siding will not accept stain. To achieve a stained appearance you can use a Urethane based paint that specifies use on LP Smartside products.

Will my lawn tractor or 4-wheeler damage the flooring on my shed? +

Not at all - Shed Shop buildings feature 3/4" Tongue and Groove LP ProStruct flooring, set on floor joists that are spaced 1' on center, plus a diamond plate aluminum door threshold that protects the edge of the flooring from being damaged when moving equipment in and out. Our flooing is rated at 430 PSF.
